Stepping Forward has been in operation for 15 years. Stepping Forward is a full time centre, open 50 weeks of the year. The centre is user lead (parents having a say in the running of the service). Stepping Forward offers a range of services which help support families in the Penicuik and surrounding rural areas. Referral’s come from different statuary and voluntary agencies as well as self-referral.
We offer a wide range of different groups/support for both men, women and children e.g. therapeutic, mutual support, life skills, family focus, new parents, study skills/support and therapeutic play for children in upper primary school and above.
We also offer a unique integrated service where the whole family (both parents and children) attends at the same time reflecting a holistic approach. Where each attend their own support group in their own right.
We also offer an Outreach service, Play Therapy, Family Art Therapy, aromatherapy, Counselling services, Study centre (support for those who have moved on to further education) and MYPAS sexual health for young people (on Monday nights).
Children can take advantage of our large sunny playroom and garden offering lots of stimulating play and activities delivered by our fun and enthusiastic qualified staff. Our aim is to promote the development and well being of children for today’s life styles. The children enjoy the heuristic play which encourages children to use their imagination.
Parents are given the opportunity to gain confidence and form friendships, in a relaxed environment which helps built trust, understanding and respect for each other. Confidentiality is of uppermost importance throughout the centre.
During the school holidays we continue to offer family support by running a play scheme for those with older children. This involves outings to various places where the whole family attends e.g. Perth swimming pool, North Berwick/ Musselburgh beaches, Edinburgh festival, outings to local parks and Blair Drummond safari park, East Links Farm etc.
